Brian Johns narrates the Virginia Organizing Project's presentation on State Tax Reform for #OccupyBlacksburg.
Virginians are bracing for another round of cuts to education, vital services, and state jobs. We live in one of the wealthiest states in the country, but with many areas of high unemployment and poverty. Our corporate income tax is among the lowest rates in the country, as is the income tax rate paid by high-income Virginians.
This was a presentation for Blacksburg community members about the VA state budget and where money comes into the state and where it gets spent. Virginians are facing another $800 million shortfall in 2012, and this workshop will give ideas for organizing to push for increased revenue and a fairer tax structure where the wealthiest individuals and corporations pay their fair share.
Get the information and tools you need to be effective in the struggle for decent government services and fair taxation. This is an action oriented workshop and we will discuss what anti-austerity actions we can DO. We will also be a discussion on divestment and how we can affect change in our community.
